Jean Gauthier ceiling light shade, unsigned, but why?
« on: July 29, 2024, 07:05:57 PM »
I've have this ceiling light shade, which is a known design by Degue for Etablissement Jean Gauthier. It's in frosted glass, about 34 cm in diameter. It is unsigned. I was expecting it to be signed in the mould on the rim EJG France. I found another example online being offered by a well-known lighting specialist based in The Netherlands. Their example is in opalescent glass and signed EJG France.

My question is: does the shade I have date to the 1930s or is it a later reproduction from the original moulds?

Some Etling designs from the 1930s in opalescent or frosted glass and marked Etling were reproduced by Sevres after WW2 in frosted glass only. These later examples by Sevres are not signed in the mould.

Any help is appreciated.

Anton
