Topic: Identifying a piece of modern glass = VADAN

I'd really like to be able to identify the maker of this vase which I bought recently in a shop in Neath, Wales.

I asked the seller who made it and she replied, "Oh, my buyer just goes all over Europe picking up interesting bits for me.  He never knows exactly who made things, or where they came from!  I think the chap who make this was in Russia or somewhere like that."

I was not pleased!       I thought, " I bet your buyer pays peanuts, too!" 

So I would like to know if anyone can identify the maker, just to give credit to him / her as much as anything! 

The vase is very solid and the metal round the middle squeezes it in like a waist. 

I call it 'The angel vase' because it looks to me like an angel with wings spread, either supporting-  or perhaps chained to - a rock.  But then I always was fanciful   :oops:

It is signed on the back and I have tried to get a pic of the signature, but apologies if it isn't very clear. 

I have no idea if the "Russia" remark had any validity.

Helo Leni,
Have seen similar piees on Ebay with the name Vadan.
I think thats what the signature looks like. I do not know about the maker, but Im sure if you do a search on Ebay you can find out more.

Javier, thank you!    Having 'Googled' for Vadan and seen further examples of his work, I am fairly sure my vase is by him.  

I love his work, particularly the way the patina on the metal echoes the colours in the glass.  My photos don't do it full justice!  

Since my husband likes metal-working and I like glass there was no argument about buying it - always a good thing   :wink:  

I suppose the idiot shop-keeper was not too far out with her guess - Russia, Romania ... well they begin with the same letter   :twisted:

I'm glad to be able to give the artist credit for his work, anyway.  Thanks again for your help.

Electroforming is a complex and difficult technique and few people understand it, so I am not surprised that the vendor was dismissive of the work. As I am sure you will find as you go about collecting, there are a number of personalities out there and although you will discover that the relationships you establish with some dealers, collectors and makers are at least as valuable as the glass you collect, I doubt that the shopkeeper in question will fall into that category! In today's world there are still plenty of people out there who don't understand that a happy customer will return!
